We currently offer five external ocular disease residency programs offering areas of emphasis in brain injury rehabilitation as well as refractive and ocular surgery.

Program Description
The resident will provide optometric care to patients with a diverse range of ocular and neurologic conditions in the Audie Murphy Memorial Veterans Administration Hospital and affiliated clinics. The resident will split their time between seeing patients in the Polytrauma Unit and the Eye Clinic of the hospital. The program will include training in diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of polytrauma-related visual complications, adjustment and eventual reintegration into the community with an improved quality of life. In the Eye Clinic, the resident will receive training in the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of ocular disease conditions, including glaucoma, retinal, and anterior segment disorders.

Program Description
The resident will provide optometric care to patients with a diverse range of ocular and neurologic conditions in the Doris Miller VAMC Eye Clinic. The resident will also be exposed to low vision rehabilitation at the Blind Rehabilitation Center on our campus as well as be exposed to the Ophthalmology subspecialties at our parent hospital, Olin E. Teague Veteran Affairs Hospital in Temple, Texas. In the Doris Miller VAMC Eye Clinic, the resident will receive training in the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of ocular disease conditions, including glaucoma, retinal disease, and anterior segment disorders.

Program Description
The resident will work closely with ophthalmologists and optometrists who have subspecialty training in anterior segment, cataract, glaucoma, cornea, dry eye, oculoplastics, retina and refractive surgery in a referral center setting. There will be a strong emphasis on pre‐ and post‐operative management of ocular surgery patients. Clinical experience will be obtained through direct patient care and training as a clinical attending for optometry externs. The resident will attend resident seminars, quarterly Parkhurst Nuvision continuing education events, and have the opportunity to participate in clinical research.

Program Description
Dell Laser Consultants (DLC) and the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO) have jointly developed a 13-month residency program to assist in the advancement of clinical optometric education. DLC is a tertiary, referral eyecare practice whose mission is to become a "Leader in Specialty Eyecare." DLC's office is located in Austin, Texas. The resident will spend the majority of their time at our main clinic working under the guidance of Derek N. Cunningham, OD, FAAO, Affiliated Residency Supervisor; Nabila Gomez, OD, FAAO, Education Coordinator; and our ophthalmology corneal subspecialists.

Program Description
The program will provide advanced clinical competence in the evaluation, diagnosis and management of patients in a population with high prevalence of acute and chronic ocular disease conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataract. The program will emphasize state-of-the-art technologies including optical coherence tomography, automated perimetry and fundus/anterior segment photography in the evaluation and management of patients. The program will expose the resident to all aspects of ocular disease management including medical, surgical and rehabilitative treatment options, and the interdisciplinary team approach to the management of chronic systemic disease. The resident will be fully integrated into direct patient-centered, evidence-based operations of the eye clinic and the healthcare system.
