Amy Ferguson, OD, MS

Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Amy Ferguson received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University in 1991. During her time there she was a member of the varsity track team and was active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Shortly after, she completed her master's degree in School Counseling at Oklahoma State University while serving as an assistant coach for the university's varsity track and field team. Dr. Ferguson served in education as a teacher, coach and school counselor for nearly 10 years. She returned to school and completed her doctoral program at the University of Houston, College of Optometry in 2005. Dr. Ferguson completed her externships in primary eye care at the Wurzburg Medac in Wurzberg, Germany, and Space Center Eye Associates in Clear Lake, Texas.

Dr. Ferguson is currently licensed as a therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist, and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association. Dr. Ferguson joined UIW Rosenberg School of Optometry in 2012 and served as the Deputy Director of Clinics for the UIW Eye Institute from 2013-2017. During this time, she was a co-founder of UIW sports and Vision Enhancement Service. Currently, she continues to serve in the UIW Sports and Vision Enhancement program and is an instructor for the Vision Science Program for UIW undergraduates and course instructor for third-and-fourth year clinical intern courses for RSO. Dr. Ferguson and her husband are the owners of La Cantera Eye Associates. She enjoys spending time with her husband and son, Jackson. She is an avid sports fan, loves the theater and attending her son's activities. She and her family are members of Oak Hills Church and have lived in San Antonio for nearly 10 years.
