Clinical Assistant Professor

Dr. Onofre is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO). Dr. Onofre received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Angelo State University in 2001, he completed his doctoral training at the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2005, and he completed a Master’s in Healthcare Administration (MHA) program at Oklahoma State University in 2021. Dr. Onofre was awarded Suma Cum Laude Honors after completing each one of his degree programs. Additionally, he is one of only a handful of optometrists across the nation to have received a Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) awarded by the Health Care Compliance Association.

Dr. Onofre currently serves as the Director of Clinical Business Operations (DCBO). In this role, Dr. Onofre provides supervisory oversight of all clinical business operations for all UIWRSO clinics. Additionally, he serves as the UIWRSO chief of compliance, chief of risk management, and chief of quality assurance. Dr. Onofre is a member of the UIWRSO Clinic Council and the UIWRSO Clinic Leadership Team. He also serves as the chair for several clinic committees, is a supervising attending in primary care and sports vision clinics and serves as faculty for several academic courses.

Dr. Onofre joined the RSO team full-time in 2014. Prior to joining RSO, Dr. Onofre had been the owner and president of three separate successful private practices. He is currently licensed as a therapeutic optometrist and an optometric glaucoma specialist. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association.
