Dr. Jeannette Wong-Powell, OD, FAAO, Dipl. AAO (CECS)
Dr. Jeannette Wong-Powell grew up in Mexico City and brings a deep passion for international optometry, medical outreach projects, and clinical excellence. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, and enrolled at the University of Houston College of Optometry on a merit-based recruitment scholarship, where she received her Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree in 2010.
Following graduation, Dr. Wong-Powell completed a residency in Ocular Disease at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Fort Wayne, with a focus on glaucoma, retina and other chronic ocular conditions. She began her professional career in private practice in New Braunfels, Texas, before transitioning into academia at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO). At RSO, she has taught labs, clinics, and academic courses, supervised residents, and led international mission trips—efforts that earned her UIW’s Faculty Service-Learning Award in 2023.
In addition to her academic contributions, Dr. Wong-Powell has served as a staff optometrist at the South Texas VA Health Care Center in San Antonio. She currently serves as Chief of the Ocular Disease Service at UIWRSO. In recognition of her commitment to global education and outreach, she was designated a Fulbright Program Specialist by the U.S. Department of State. In 2025, Dr. Wong-Powell became the 22nd Diplomate in Comprehensive Eye Care of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society, and Board Certified in Medical Optometry by the ABCMO.
