Dr. Amy Ferguson obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Oklahoma State University in 1991, where she was an active member of the track team and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She later earned her Master’s degree in School Counseling at Oklahoma State while serving as an assistant coach for the track and field team. Dr. Ferguson dedicated nearly a decade to education as a teacher, coach, and school counselor before pursuing her doctoral studies.

In 2005, she completed her doctoral program at the University of Houston, College of Optometry. Dr. Ferguson completed externships in primary eye care at the Wurzburg Medac in Wurzburg, Germany, and Space Center Eye Associates in Clear Lake, TX.

Dr. Ferguson and her husband have owned and operated several commercial practices and were previous owners of a private practice in Boerne, TX. She has extensive experience in a high-volume contact lens practice, focusing on treating anterior segment pathology. In 2012, Dr. Ferguson joined the UIW Rosenberg School of Optometry, serving as the Deputy Director of Clinics for the UIW Eye Institute from 2013 to 2017. During this period, she co-founded the UIW Sports and Vision Enhancement Service.  Dr. Ferguson is a licensed therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist and has been a longtime member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association.

Presently, Dr. Ferguson contributes to the UIW Sports and Vision Enhancement program and teaches UIW undergraduates in the Vision Science program. She also instructs third- and fourth-year clinical intern courses for Rosenberg School of Optometry.  Dr. Ferguson is currently serving on the American Optometric Association Sports and Performance Vision committee, representing Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Ferguson enjoys spending time with her husband and son, Jackson. She is an avid sports fan, theater enthusiast, and enjoys attending her son’s activities. Dr. Ferguson and her family are members of Leon Springs Baptist Church and have lived in San Antonio for over 15 years.
